Concussion: More than just beating your head against a wall

Concussion and Upper cervical chiropractic

When asked to think about concussion, most think of a hard hit directly to the head and that person then becoming unconscious. And, while direct impacts to the head are a major source of concussive trauma, it is possible to have concussive trauma from a jolting of the body, such as you might experience in a car accident, bicycle crash, or the now famous football hit.

In simplest terms, a concussion is the rattling around of your brain inside your head. As it rattles, it hits the inside of your skull and gets little bruises and swells.

In the case of the car accident above, concussion signs and symptoms may be masked by whiplash and other injuries sustained in the crash. The concussion may go undiagnosed, which can lead to health complications later in life.

Concussion can also present itself as a Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI) that can be repeated over and over (like in football tackles), altering a person’s brain function in a condition called Chronic Traumatic Encephalitis (CTE).

If you think you may have suffered from a concussion lately, it’s important that you know everything you can know about this MTBI, so you can do everything you can do to heal from it. Below is a list of symptoms that you should be aware of that will help you know if you have suffered from a concussion.

Concussions and Atlas Orthogonal

It is possible for a person to suffer from a concussion and not know it, and it is also possible for a person to suffer from a major collision that does not result in concussion. in either case the best thing to do is find out for sure. One of the best ways to do that is to get your upper neck examined by an Atlas Orthogonal chiropractor because the upper neck nearly always misaligns in head collisions and whiplash injuries.

When an Atlas Orthogonal chiropractor examines your neck, they will check for signals (short leg, tight neck muscles, inflamed nerves) indicating that there is a misalignment in your upper neck that may be contributing to problems related to your concussion. A misalignment of only a millimeter of the top bones in your neck can hinder the brain’s ability to communicate with the body, but realigning those top bones will restore your body’s communication system.
